NOBODY’S PERFECT TAYLORMADE RSi 1 IRONS the GEAR Available November 14; $1079 (steel; 3-PW); $1199 (graphite; 3-PW) CLICK HERE TO SEE FACE SLOT TECHNOLOGY EXPLAINED IN LAYMAN'S TERMS. E very golfer – from average players through to the world’s best professionals – mis-hit shots with their irons. You know the scenario, you’re on a par-3 with the flag tucked behind a bunker, you need a solid strike to get your ball all the way back to the hole. You hit the ball out of the toe and it spears right and short, finishing in the sand and the resulting bogey can be blamed solely on the poor tee shot. What if that mis-hit flew just as far and not so crooked? That bogey might just be a par or a birdie. TaylorMade has developed a new iron technology, designed to improve consistency and distance on off-centre hits. The company has introduced the new RSi iron family – the RSi 1, RSi 2 and RSi TP – featuring ‘Face Slot Technology’, an innovation with the sole purpose of providing greater consistency across the face to improve performance on mis-hits. “No golfer is perfect, not even the best players in the world hit the centre of the club every time. So with RSi, we’re giving all golfers a technology that can help their mis-hits perform more like pure strikes,” TaylorMade’s Director of Product Creation for Irons, Putters and Wedges, Tomo Bystedt, said. The vertical Face Slots are found in the 3- to 8-irons. Positioned at the toe and heel, just outside the grooves, the slots are cut all the way through the face and filled with a durable epoxy compound. The heel and toe slots allow the face to flex easily and protect ball speed for more consistent ball speeds across the face. OTG
