Golf Australia Express : OTG Express 139
C ONTROVERSIAL? Absolutely. But Wie is still a tender 25 years old, and considering the first 12 years of her career were mired in disappointment and underperformance, her breakout major-winning year last year has earned the uber-talented American a ‘wunderkind’ reprieve and a new lease on life. It’s staggering to realise that Wie has been a feature on the LPGA Tour since 2002, yet is still around the same age that most male professionals are just starting to find their feet. The Hawaiian finally delivered on all that talent and promise in 2014 with a stunningly consistent year that yielded two LPGA victories, her first major title at the US Women’s Open, 13 top 10 finishes from her 21 events, a scoring average of 69.82 and almost $2 million in prizemoney. While she hasn’t set the world alight so far this season, we’ve learnt our lesson when it comes to writing her off. MICHELLEWIE WUNDERKIND RATING Did we get our list right? Let us know – we'd love to hear from you.
