Golf Australia Express : OTG Express 150 - US Open Preview
HOW HE QUALIFIED: Qualifier for 2014 US Tour Championship; top-60 in world ranking at May 25. BEST US OPEN FINISH: T10 (2012) BEST FINISH SO FAR IN 2015: T5 (WGC–Cadillac Match Play) COMMENT: Senden is starting to factor in majors more frequently, and the US Open would appear to be the favoured domain of such a supreme ball-striker. However, we prefer his chances on a narrower, tree-lined venue over the broader, wilder Chambers Bay site. OUR PREDICTION: 30th to 40th. HOW HE QUALIFIED: Equal 7th at sectional qualifying in Ohio. BEST US OPEN FINISH: Debut. BEST FINISH SO FAR IN 2015: T2 (Queensland PGA Championship) COMMENT: Smith was one of the stories to emerge from qualifying, returning after a rain delay to pluck birdies at will and sneak into the field for his first major. We can’t expect the 21-year-old Queenslander to contend on Sunday but he already has more experience on the PGA Tour – four events played this season via sponsor invites – than many may realise. OUR PREDICTION: Missed cut. JOHNSENDEN AUSSIES AT THE US OPEN MAJOR POLL CAMERONSMITH
