HUNTINGDALE'S MASTERS RETURN THE Australian Masters is returning to its spiritual home. The 37th staging of the iconic local tournament will be at Huntingdale Golf Club, which hosted the first 30 Masters from 1979 to 2008. In recent years the event has been shared between Kingston Heath, Victoria, Royal Melbourne and Metropolitan. While the Masters will return to Huntingdale for only one year, vice president-director of Golf IMG Australia and New Zealand, David Rollo, said it was a wonderful opportunity to bring it back to where it all began. “Given the integral part that Huntingdale has played in the rich history of the Australian Masters, we are delighted to have the opportunity to return and see the Club feature in our venue rotation policy,” Rollo said. “We know the players will enjoy the competitors and I look forward to returning in 2016.” __ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ REVIEWS POOR FOR RORY'S GAME SPEAKING of McIlroy, the Northern Irishman has officially taken over from Tiger Woods as the face of EA Sports’ video game franchise, after the release of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. But the early reviews haven’t exactly been glowing. Gamers have attacked the new game’s lack of courses, with only eight real-world courses to choose from, compared with 20 in the last Tiger Woods offering. There are also a handful of ‘Night Club’ courses, but the glaring omissions are Augusta National and Pebble Beach, as well as the popular Masters Tournament mode. __ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ARNIE'S APPEARANCE WITHDRAWN ILLNESS and fatigue forced golfing great Arnold Palmer [pictured] to pull out of an appearance at the Champions Tour 3M Championship over the weekend. The 85-year-old was due to sign autographs before captaining Team LPGA’s Annika Sorenstam, Nancy Lopez and Pat Bradley at the Greats of Golf Challenge on Saturday, but wasn’t well enough to attend. Executive tournament director Hollis Cavner said Palmer had phoned to tell him he was tired and not wonderful facilities afforded by the stunning new clubhouse and the challenges of the Huntingdale layout, which has delivered so many memorable moments over the past four decades.” ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ __ MCILROY UNLIKELY TO DEFEND PGA WORLD No.1 Rory McIlroy is looking increasingly unlikely to take his place in the field for the final major of the year. McIlroy announced he would miss his title defence this week’s WGC- Bridgestone Invitational, just a week out from the PGA Championship, as his rehabilitation continues from the ruptured left ankle ligament he sustained last month. “Unfortunately, I will not be defending my World Golf Championships- Bridgestone Invitational title,” he said in a statement.“Best of luck to all the feeling well after spending the last few weeks in England. ____ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ CHOPPER LANDS ON NY GOLF COURSE GOLF courses are often the scenes of high drama, but not usually like this. A US Coast Guard helicopter had to make an emergency landing after smoke and fumes filled the cockpit while it flew over New York, so the pilot set it down on the only clear space he could find: a fairway at the Richmond Country Club on Staten Island. All four crew members were uninjured, with pilot Elise Roberts saying she was forced to land the aircraft after the flight mechanic smelled something. “We were setting up for a precautionary landing when we started losing equipment and decided we needed to land immediately.” TRAPS AROUND the From the name that’s always delivered distance through speed, comes the first fairway woods we’ve ever made with driver-like launch conditons. The name says it all.
