He proceeded to finish tied for ninth at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, won the Sony Open and tied for second at the Humana Challenge. Then he shaved. The rest of his season yielded just one more top 10 result, as well as – ironically enough – 10 missed cuts. JOHNSON WAGNER CRAIG STADLER ARGUABLY the greatest golfing ’tache of all time belongs to the man affectionately dubbed “The Walrus”. 1982 Masters winner CRAIG STADLER’s moustache is still going strong on the Champions Tour today and it even contains traces of blonde, despite his neighbouring goatee being exclusively grey. THE original and one of the best. And yes, we could be talking about either the player or his beloved beard. A thick white beard that was both a fashion statement in the mid to late 1800s and natural protection from the elements on courses in his native Scotland accompanied OLD TOM MORRIS’ moustache, and distinguished him from the many moustachioed players doing the rounds at the time.
