DEPENDING on which side of the fence you sit, the 2014 WGC- Cadillac Championship was either one of the most watchable or the least watchable events in PGA Tour history, as a firm, fast, tricked-up course became almost unplayable when winds tore through Miami. Consider these facts as an indication of just how hard it was in the second round: Tiger Woods lost four balls in water hazards and still moved up the leaderboard; Woods’ 91-foot birdie at the par-4 fourth was the only one at the hole for the entire day; the scoring average was 76; only three of the world’s top 68 players broke par; 113 balls landed in water hazards; and Bubba Watson laid up with a pitching wedge... on a par three! The players hated it, and we’ll likely never see anything like it again, but it made for bloody good TV. 4 UP UNTIL 2005, no player had ever taken on the trees at the dog-leg, 360m par-4 16th and lived to tell the tell. Enter Tiger Woods, who ignited a bomb off the tee and reached the green in one. 5 THAT same year, Woods and Mickelson were on a much-anticipated collision course after being paired together in the final group on Sunday. The ensuing battle delivered everything it promised, and more. The pair jabbed each other all day before Woods drained a 24-foot birdie putt on the 17th to take the lead. Mickelson could have forced a playoff with a 30-foot chip as the last hole, only to watch in anguish as it lipped out, allowing Woods to tap in for a par and the title. 6 WATCH TIGER WOODS DRAIN A 91-FOOT BOMB IN THIS VIDEO.
