EXEMPTIONS FOR GOLD MEDALLISTS GOLF’S gold medallists at the Rio Olympics will receive a one-year exemption into the game's major championships. The men's champion in Rio will be exempt into the Masters, US Open, Open Championship and US PGA Championship in 2017, while the women's exemption begins with the 2016 Evian Championship and includes the ANA Inspiration, Women's PGA Championship, US Women's Open and Women's British Open in 2017. The game’s governing bodies gathered on the eve of the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club to make the joint announcement. “We believe our game's visibility will be dramatically elevated by the global platform that only the Olympics offer,” Masters chairman Billy Payne said. MORE> KO CADDIES AT AUGUSTA WORLD No.1 Lydia Ko took on the unfamiliar role as caddie at Augusta National. A week after winning her second major championship, the Kiwi carried the bag for Korean-born American Kevin Na in the Par-3 Contest. Wearing the traditional white overalls and green cap caddie uniform, Ko even hit a shot, using Na’s 9-iron to tee off the 135-yard 9th hole. The 18-year-old flushed the shot onto the green, and watched as it spun back to finish 60cm from the hole. “I met a lot of players such as Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and Rory McIlroy. I had so much fun. I will never forget about this event,” Ko said. Ko was a guest at Augusta to attend an awards ceremony where she received the 2015 Female Player of the Year Award from the Golf Writers Association of America. Spieth received the male Player of the Year Award. TRAPS AROUND the CONTACT +64 9 917 1588 OR SELECTED PRO SHOPS AND STOCKISTS WWW.ONCOREGOLFOCEANIA.COM
