CALLAWAY XR 16 SUB ZERO DRIVER SUBZERO, Available Now; RRP: $680; au.callawaygolf.com T he "best players" seeking extremely low spin will be drawn to the new CALLAWAY XR 16 SUB ZERO DRIVER, according to the company. Already put in play by the likes of Phil Mickelson, the XR 16 Sub Zero represents the lowest centre of gravity Callaway has ever engineered in a driver, meaning players with high swing speeds that generate a lot of spin can use the extremely low spin Sub Zero to drive the ball even farther. This driver also utilises a new proprietary Carbon Triax Crown that’s Callaway’s lightest carbon crown ever to redistribute weight below the neutral axis. The next step involved adding two interchangeable weights (two and ten grams) in the clubhead to fine-tune the launch and spin needed to maximise distance. Golfers can move the heavier weight forward for the lowest spinning, flattest trajectory or move it back to promote a slightly higher trajectory and more forgiveness. Players with higher swing speeds that can take advantage of this lower spin with a deep-face design to pick up more distance. E thegear THE SPECS: The XR 16 Sub Zero features a 440cc clubhead and comes in only a 9.5° loft and only in right-handed, however it is available with any one of 20 premium after-market shafts at no extra charge.
