Golf Australia Express : GA Express 201
Couple that with ranking second in driving distance (341.1 yards) and fourth in driving accuracy (32 of 56 fairways) and it’s no surprise Johnson was again the last man standing on Sunday. Speaking of Woods, the former world No.1 is now the only player with more PGA Tour victories than Johnson’s 11 since the beginning of 2008. Tellingly, Johnson’s latest win came at a course he traditionally doesn’t even like, with his previous best WGC-Bridgestone result a 15th some years ago. Last year he was 53rd. And that brings us to The Open – a tournament and style of golf that traditionally agrees with Johnson’s game far better than what he faced last week. He was shaping to win at Royal St George’s in 2011 before flying a 2-iron out of bounds at the 14th on Sunday, and last year he led after two rounds before a double-75 weekend disaster. But it remains the only major at which he hasn’t missed a cut since 2010, and with the standard British links demand for accuracy off the tee similarly prevalent at Royal Troon, his stocks are further enhanced. Johnson says the secret to his success this year has been the decision to do away with his lifelong tendency to draw the ball and develop a fade. “When I first came on Tour, I couldn’t hit a cut to save my life,” Johnson said. “(Now) I feel like my misses I can get it in the fairway. With the draw, if I missed it, it had zero chance of going in the fairway. Hitting a cut gives me room for error.” THE ONLY THING MORE TERRIFYING THAN AN IN-FORM DUSTIN JOHNSON IS AN IN-FORM DUSTIN JOHNSON WITH NINE YEARS WORTH OF WEIGHT LIFTED OFF HIS SHOULDERS. 2 x Nights Accommodation in a 2 or 3 Bedroom Apartment 1 x Round of 18 Holes starting from: Relax, Stay & Play in the Bay! email@example.com 02 4916 4777 Subject to availability.
