Golf Australia Express : GA Express 205
“There were a couple of times I thought about walking away. I didn’t want to keep finishing way down the money list. That’s no fun. I was killing myself and not really having that much to show for it.” “It costs a lot of money to operate on Tour and when you’re not making that much it’s a constant struggle. So I made a conscious effort to try and get better.” Resolving to get better and actually making those gains are two very different things, and as recently as 2010 Walker missed 14 cuts at the 27 events he played, though he did record his first ever top-three finish – a third place at the Texas Open. He then missed seven cuts in his last 12 events of that season. We’re all well aware that it took until his 188th PGA Tour tournament – the 2014 season-opening Frys.com Open – for Walker to finally do what others predicted he’d do many moons earlier. Like with so many things in this great game, on the face of it, that maiden victory made no sense at all. He’d finished the 2013 season by missing six cuts at his last nine events, though he did manage a tie for second at the Greenbrier Classic. Maybe it was Butch Harmon’s swing tweaks, or maybe one day he decided to butter his toast on the other side, but suddenly everything came together on that opening weekend in late 2013. Seven events later he’d added another two, and if his status among golf’s elite wasn’t already assured then, the additional four wins, capped with that career-defining moment on Sunday at Baltusrol, finished the job. “THERE WERE A COUPLE OF TIMES I THOUGHT ABOUT WALKING AWAY. I DIDN’T WANT TO KEEP FINISHING WAY DOWN THE MONEY LIST.” 2 x Nights Accommodation in a 2 or 3 Bedroom Apartment 1 x Round of 18 Holes starting from: Relax, Stay & Play in the Bay! email@example.com 02 4916 4777 Subject to availability.
