Golf Australia Express : GA Express 210
IF EVER a shot exemplified what made Tiger great, this would be it. On the 18th hole at the 2002 PGA Championship he found a fairway bunker off the tee and had a shocking lie – on a sandy downslope with trees ahead of him. Combining power, balance, boldness, precision and a little bit of ingenuity, Woods made the impossible appear routine by pulling out a 3-iron and blasting a hooking ball 210 yards, landing it just a few metres from the hole. He made the putt, of course. YOU know it’s good when even Woods himself is surprised and a little sheepish at the result. The day before Tiger forced that US Open playoff with Rocco Mediate, he found himself with yet another knee-wrenching stance, this time in a steep patch of greenside rough at the 17th. Flopping the ball up high, the great man himself could only laugh as the ball bounced once and dunked the hole. ON ARGUABLY the most famous green in golf – the 17th island green at TPC Sawgrass – Woods produced one of his most stunning displays. About 60 feet from the hole and faced with a putt that included multiple breaks and an off-the-charts level of difficulty, Woods sent the ball on its way. It never looked like missing, with Woods starting his “putter point” well before the ball curled into the right edge of the cup. WOODS’ first Masters success in 1997 wasn’t just impressive because it was his first Augusta appearance as a professional. He set the all-time Masters 72-hole scoring record that year after finishing at 18-under, but did so after making four bogeys on his front nine on Thursday. His margin of victory? A lazy 12 shots. 2002 BUNKER DOWN 2008 DID I DO THAT? 2001 THE 60-FOOT BOMB 1997 MAIDEN MASTERS WATCH IT HERE WATCH IT HERE WATCH IT HERE WATCH IT HERE
