Golf Australia Express : GA Express 211
WE ADMIT it. We were guilty of falling for the “she’s arrived” discussion around Michelle Wie after she finally broke through for her first major victory at the 2014 US Women’s Open. But it wasn’t like that win was a flash in the plan - the American had put together a remarkably consistent year. And that makes her (latest) fall from grace all the more mystifying. Wie is in the midst of the worst season of her career, having failed to record a single top 10 while chalking up 12 missed cuts and a withdrawal from 21 events. She’s earned just $55,375 in prizemoney, but is in no danger of losing her tour card, as a major winner from the past five years. AS IF the world rankings, the Race to CME Globe and the money list weren’t enough in the season-long contest department, there’s more silverware on offer at the Evian Championship. The Rolex Annika Major Award (for the best performed player at this year’s majors) will be handed out at the conclusion of the event, however only four players have a mathematically chance of winning it. Unsurprisingly, they are this year’s four major winners: Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Brittany Lang and Ariya Jutanugarn. Forgive us for not waiting with baited breath to see who secures that one. IT’S not just the PGA Tour that’s dialing things up a notch in the run towards the end of the season. The LPGA’s fifth major - the Evian Championship - kicks off this week, and while it’s not the last tournament of the year, it’s certainly the most lucrative of the remaining events, and also the most prestigious. So who should you look out for at Evian-les-Bains in France? Here’s what we know from this year's LPGA results. E WHERE’S WIE? AWARD SEASON
