GETTING A SHOT ON THE BEACH THE iconic heart of Surfers Paradise, Cavill Avenue, played host to the Australian PGA Championship at the weekend as punters, and the Gold Coast Mayor, trierd tried to win their way to a shot on the Soniq Million Dollar Hole. As part of the ‘Play Your Way to the PGA’ road show, which has been travelling around Northern New South Wales and Queensland, the PGA of Australia has replicated the par-3 16th hole at RACV Royal Pines Resort on an X-GOLF Simulator, giving golf fans the chance to try and score a hole-in-one. MORE> _______________________________________________ DUKE BOUND FOR THE PGA SOUTH Australian Chris Duke has won the 2016 PGA Professionals Championship at Hamilton Island Golf Club by a whopping six shots over two- time defending champion Matt Docking. Both Duke and Docking, by virtue of their two- two placings in the event, will now tee it up in the Australian PGA Championship at RACV Royal Pines Resort in December. Starting the day one shot behind overnight leader Darren Garrett, Duke birdied seven of his first 10 holes in the final round to open up a sizeable Docking couldn’t put enough pressure on Duke over the back nine and when Vernon Sexton-Finck, who was playing alongside Duke, made bogies on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes, the tournament was Duke’s to lose. MORE> _______________________________________________ CALLAWAY SIGN NIKE GOLF BALL DESIGNER CALLAWAY Golf Company has fortified its golf ball research and development team by adding industry veteran Hideyuki “Rock” Ishii, who was the senior golf ball designer at Nike Golf when it ceased production a few months back. Ishii, who becomes the Senior Director, Advanced Golf Ball Research, brings 25 years of golf product development experience, including 15 years with Nike Golf, during which he was responsible for the design of every Nike ball. To date, 25 majors have been won by athletes Ishii worked with on golf ball design and fitting. No brand has been more innovative in the ball category of late than Callaway, with products like Chrome Soft and Supersoft exceeding golfers’ expectations for feel, spin, distance and control. _______________________________________________ LEISHMAN TO BYPASS DEFENCE FOR CUP TILT MARC Leishman will not defend his Nedbank Challenge title so he is fit and ready to help Adam Scott win the World Cup of Golf at Kingston Heath starting on November 24. Leishman will partner Adam Scott, after world No.1 Jason Day withdrew with a back injury.
