FURYK STRUGGLED WITH RYDER CUP SECRET NEWLY-appointed 2018 USA Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk said he had a tough time keeping the appointment a secret. The PGA Tour veteran was officially announced to the role last week, but revealed he and wife Tabitha had known since December. "I get chills thinking about all the events I've been lucky enough to take part in. To be sitting here as the 2018 captain is such an honour," Furyk said. "I'm actually a little overwhelmed. It's no secret, it's been my favourite event my entire career. In my opinion the Ryder Cup embodies everything that is special about golf." The 46-year-old has represented the US at nine Ryder Cups, including being a member of the 1999 and 2008 winning sides. The USA will be hoping to retain the Cup when it takes on Europe at Le Golf National in Paris. _______________________________________________ CALLAWAY GOLF ACQUIRES OGIO CALLAWAY Golf has expanded its lifestyle presence in the game by announcing its acquisition of OGIO International for US$75.5 million. “We are excited about OGIO becoming part of Callaway and believe this acquisition aligns well with our stated goal of strategically developing growth in tangential areas,” Callaway Golf Company president Chip Brewer said. “There is a robust strategic fit between the companies; both are strong brands with a sports heritage that share a passion for creating high- quality, performance-driven products. There is also significant overlap in our supply chains and go-to-market strategies, which should allow us to add value and create profitable growth.” _____________________________________________ WORLD SUPER 6 SET TO TAKE OFF THE ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth will have a truly global presence in its inaugural staging with the European Tour, Asian Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia partnering to tri- sanction the tournament.
