Golf Australia Express : GA Express 245
A T 608 yards, you’d think Erin Hills’ monster opening hole would be its longest. And yet it’s not. Not even close. Along with prodigious length, it demands accuracy and nerves of steel right out of the gate, with the tee shot needing to fly the wetlands tucked against the entire fairway on the left, promising to eat more than its share of balls throughout the week. From there it’s straightforward, with the small green reachable in two for most players. In the 2011 US Amateur Championship, Russell Henley and eventual winner Patrick Cantlay both made eagle here at their first playoff hole. HOLE 1 PAR 5, 608 YARDS
