A THOUSAND different thoughts and storylines materialised in the wake of Brooks Koepka’s breakthrough major victory at the US Open. But one that resonated immediately after he sunk that final putt was, “How does he not do this more often?”. Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas made all the headlines during those memorable four days on that sprawling Wisconsin countryside, and yet when it came to the crunch on Sunday, it was the 27-year-old Floridian who, if we’re being honest, was never going to lose. On a course that demanded accuracy on each and every shot, and punished you severely with knee-high fescue if you strayed, Koepka couldn’t possibly have missed out on this one, such was the length and accuracy with which he calmly plundered Erin Hills’ much-publicised ultra-long layout.
