H AVING successfully relaunched the Great Big Bertha line in recent times Callaway has delved into its history again to update one of its most successful models. The new Steelhead XR fairway woods supercharge the iconic Steelhead shape by using Callaway’s latest technologies. Incorporating Speed Step and Hyper Speed Face Cup technologies in the classic fairway wood shape increases clubhead and ball speeds for enhanced distance, even on mis-hits. And it wouldn’t be a Steelhead fairway without the iconic Hawkeye sole. The new model features a modernised version, providing even more versatility than the original, making the Steelhead XR playable from every lie. A six-gram J-36 carbon crown is used to save weight, which is then redistributed to increase forgiveness and place the centre of gravity low and forward for an easy to launch low spin flight, mirroring the original Steelhead. Available in a wide variety of lofts, including the hugely popular 3+ and 4+, the Steelhead XR fairway comes standard with premium Mitsubishi Tensei CK shafts.
