Golf Australia Express : GA Express 248
Y OU don’t have to be Irish to be lucky on the golf course, but clearly it doesn’t hurt, either. Darren Clarke appeared destined for a watery grave on the par-5 18th hole at the 2005 European Open, but Lady Luck had other ideas. Not only did Clarke’s ball hit the rocks and stay out of the water, it continued bouncing along them before finally copping one last kick and jumping out onto the fringe of the green. WATCH THE SHOT HERE DARREN CLARKE 2005 EUROPEAN OPEN WATCH THE SHOT HERE W ATSON got lucky not once, but twice at the 16th hole of last year’s Players. After bombing his drive at the par-5, his approach came out a little chunky from the rough and looked destined for a watery grave until it hit a timber bulkhead and ballooned up onto the green. It continued rolling and was lucky not to continue off the back of the green and into the water on the other side. BUBBA WATSON 2016 PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP WATCH THE SHOT HERE N ORMALLY you’d be spitting chips if your well-played par-3 tee shot hit your partner’s ball while spinning back towards the hole. But in this case, it gave Leif Olson the helping hand he needed to send his ball holeward for an ace. As if that stroke of luck wasn’t enough, the hole-in-one netted him a new BMW convertible, too. LEIF OLSON 2009 CANADIAN OPEN WATCH THE SHOT HERE L UKE Donald’s hooked tee shot at the par-3 13th hole at the 2015 Honda Classic could have gone anywhere, including the living room of the house he picked out with his wayward drive. But instead, it caught the roof tiles at precisely the right angle, sending the ball back out into the fairway and allowing him to make a pedestrian approach shot, and eventually a par. That’s one lucky (Donald) duck. LUKE DONALD 2015 HONDA CLASSIC
