Golf Australia Express : GA Express 249
A S FAR as bizarre prizes go, this category has to take the cake. Literally. In 2003 Mathias Gronberg won the Italian Open and his weight in Grana Padona cheese. Similarly in 2011 Lloyd Saltman was rewarded for an ace at the Madrid Masters with his weight in ham. But by far the strangest food award was the Miyazaki cow Luke Donald won at the Dunlop Phoenix Open in Japan. Although the whole cow didn’t make it to him, Donald was sent 200 pounds of beef valued at $80,000. No bull. T HE Farmers Insurance Open is played each year at the spectacular Torrey Pines on the coastline of San Diego. The area is known for its surfing as much as its golf and in recent times winners are presented with a surfboard as part of their prize haul, inevitably posing with the board displaying a ‘Shaka’. SURFS UP! EAT'EM ALL F EW things in the world go together like golf and a cold one, and Wade Ormsby and Matt Fitzpatrick had their fill of the amber ale after each winning a year’s supply of beer. Ormsby was rewarded with 12 months’ worth of Warsteiner for an ace at the KLM Open in 2015, while Fitzpatrick was gifted a years’ worth of Pilsner Urquell for a long drive at last year’s Czech Masters.
