Golf Australia Express : GA Express 250
Of course, it’s all weather-dependent but the previous two Opens (St Andrews and Royal Troon) have been played on lush playing surfaces. Birkdale has been baked by good early summer sun and despite some showers over the past few days it will be firm for at least the start of the championship. That will play right into the hands of the Australians. Firm playing conditions, combined with wind – gusting (not strong) winds are forecast for the week – certainly suits the likes of Jason Day, Adam Scott and Marc Leishman. We only have to look back to the 2015 Open, when this trio led the tournament with five holes to play, to find some vindication of their links golf pedigree. Scott, of course, has a string of top- fives at The Open and Warrnambool's Leishman will relish the control-your-ball style of golf that Birkdale will demand this week, especially in the wind.
