Golf Australia Express : GA Express 251
M ARC Leishman continues to impress at The Open, with his final round 65 propelling him into his third top-six in the event in the past four years. The Victorian played exceptional golf over the weekend – he was 9-under for the closing 36 holes – after making the cut on the number on Friday. His high finish at Birkdale has him now believing he’s edging closer to winning a major. “It feels like it's getting closer all the time,” he said. “There other things with majors, there's only four a year, so you have to try and peak at the right times. “It's great (playing in the majors). You grow up watching all this stuff on TV. And you hope you're going to get there one day. And to be there on a Sunday afternoon when the stands are full, getting that ovation coming up the 18th hole, it feels really nice. “Occasionally you have to pinch yourself a little bit. But I've done it a few times now, so it's just fun to do it. And it would be nice to walk up there one day with a four-shot lead and enjoy it more.” A T 8.30PM on Friday the temperature had dropped to about nine degrees, it was showery and the wind was howling across the course. Still, there were a couple of thousand diehard golf fans lining the fairways as the last few groups trudged back to the clubhouse. Many were there to see the local hero Tommy Fleetwood, but there was no lack of encouragement for the other players – most of them little known pros. “On Friday night when there were people out there at half eight at night and it was horrendous weather and people shouldn't have been there. That's when it really shows they're some diehard fans,” Fleetwood said. “They’re the best fans in the world.” we learned... THE OPEN HAS THE WORLD’S BEST GALLERIES we learned...
