L IKE his cricket, Kevin Pietersen hedges his bets between England and South Africa with golf as a member of Wentworth in the UK and Leopard Creek in South Africa. The 104 Test veteran is a solid player with a handicap of 7 who unsurprisingly oozes confidence and is regularly found on the links with fellow cricketers Shane Warne, Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis. The 14-handicapper has been involved in the professional game, at one time mentoring Chris Wood and as an outspoken critic of the ‘Zika’ virus excuse used by many of the games top players in missing last year’s Rio Olympics. Perhaps 2017 will be the year Redgrave achieves his greatest golfing triumph at St Andrews, which until now has been making the cut alongside Australia’s Peter Senior at the 2004 Dunhill.
