T HE new P•730 irons were designed by TaylorMade with the best players in the world in mind, with feedback from the Tour part of the muscle back iron’s development process. “The overall goal was to retain the features that were iconic to the TPMB while at the time improving its performance in two subtle ways: shaping and mass properties,” TaylorMade’s Tomo Bystedt said of the irons which originally appeared in Rory McIlroy’s bag in prototype form. To improve upon the iron’s predecessors – the TPMB ’11 and TPMB ’14 – TaylorMade refined the leading edge of the P•730 and incorporated a milled channel which separates the mass of the muscle back vertically, raising the inertia. Forged from 1025 carbon steel, the P•730 also features a smaller blade profile as well as a face and grooves that are precision milled for improved turf interaction and workability, while also producing the soft feel off the clubface players expect from a forged blade design.
