FREEZE FRAME WATCH: DAY HOLE A 60-FOOT PUTT MUCH IS MADE ABOUT JASON DAY’S BALL-STRIKING BUT HE’S THE BEST PUTTER ON TOUR AT THE MOMENT. HE LEADS THE STROKES GAINED PUTTING STATS FOR THE PGA TOUR AND HIS SUCCESS ON THE GREENS IS ALL BASED ON SIMPLE FUNDAMENTALS. ► Jason Day Day is the perfect example of a player who gets all his alignment lines – toe line, knees, hips and shoulders – all parallel to the putting line. Jason’s putter is virtually an extension of his forearms, as can be seen with the straight line down the shaft. Also, like his toe and shoulder line, his forearms are square to the putting line. If you placed a shaft across his forearms, it would be parallel to the putting line. Day’s hands are ideally very quiet during the stroke. He sets his hands on the grip with the palms opposing each other. Note how the back of his left hand is facing down the target line, while his left thumb points straight down the top of the putter grip. Day’s putting is technically ‘text book’ and includes making sure his eyes are over the putting line. Note also, his head has not turned to look at the ball ... yet.
