Golf Australia Express : GA Express 297
THE MOMENT Weekend Warriors Eight Australians travelled to Carnoustie for the 147th Open Championship hoping to capture the Auld Claret Jug – and although the famed trophy once again eluded the men from Down Under, there were seven Aussies who managed to earn weekend tee times on the Scottish links. Jason Day and Adam Scott both claimed a share of 17th place, while Open debutants Cameron Davis (T39) and Lucas Herbert (T51) both impressed in difficult conditions. Marc Leishman (60th) failed to fire, as did Brett Rumford (T61) and Cameron Smith (78th). Matt Jones missed the cut with rounds of 75 and 76 – but he wasn’t disappointed for long, his wife giving birth to their third daughter while he was flying home. “Missing the cut @TheOpen can be a blessing in disguise for some. #luckyme. I’ll be home soon,” he Tweeted.
