Golf Australia Express : GA Express 311
THE MOMENT Amateur Hour The future of Australian golf appears to be in safe hands, after Victorian Zach Murray held off fellow amateur David Micheluzzi to win the Nexus Risk Services WA Open. Murray, who tied for 9th in the same event last year, led from start to finish in Perth after opening the event with a first round 64, which tied the course record at Mount Lawley Golf Club. The 21-year-old made three consecutive birdies on Sunday beginning at the 15th hole, to allow him a stress free bogey at the 72nd hole to claim victory – and a PGA Tour of Australasia exemption if he turns professional – by two shots. “It’s one that I will have to sit down and have a good hard think about. It’s going to be my job so I don’t want to rush into things. I just have to make the best decision I can,” Murray said of when he will make the jump to the paid ranks.
