EQUIPMENT NOTES • Rose’s first win of 2019 comes after his much-discussed switch to high-end Japanese manufacturer Honma. The Englishman kept the familiar TP5 golf ball from TaylorMade in play alongside an M6 3-wood and Vokey Design lob wedge, but has seemingly transitioned into his new clubs without any trouble, winning in his second start. • The World No.1 also switched to a new putter this year, Rose opting for a prototype model from Boston-based putter maker Axis 1. The winged putter Rose used at Torrey Pines features a unique hosel design to offer improved balance and stability and was fitted with the same Lamkin Flat Cat grip he used with a claw technique in 2018. New equipment, really trying to bed that in. Obviously you face a lot of doubts and questions ... So that made it special this week to sort of see that trajectory so soon.
