CALIFORNIAN LOVE IN The golf world was waiting with bated breath for the first time Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth teed it up together in 2019. Reed famously put the breakup of his successful combination with the former World No.1 at last year’s Ryder Cup at the hands of Spieth. Before his fellow Texan responded in surprise to Reed’s comments in the New York Times when making his first appearance of the year in Hawaii. “It didn’t bother me. I was just like, ‘Whoa.’ There was nothing lead up to that ... nothing told me that was going to happen,” Spieth said of Reed’s inflammatory interview. We didn’t have to wait long for the two players to compete alongside each other, but for those hoping for a frosty reception, Ernie Els and his International hopefuls perhaps among them, the issue appears to be forgotten. Grouped together during the third round of last week’s Farmers Insurance Open, Spieth ignored an outstretched hand from Reed, instead embracing his fiery countryman. The fire and ice combo is potentially set to make a comeback later this year at Royal Melbourne. COVER Story
