Golf Australia Express : Issue 5
THERE’S A LOT to like about Gerry Watson. (You probably know him simply as Bubba.) His swing is unorthodox yet he nuts the ball further than almost anyone on Tour. He has a self-deprecating humour, shown as a member of the boy band ‘Golf Boys’. He routinely speaks his mind and modestly deflects praise of his game. And most of all, he wears his heart on his sleeve—he’s not afraid to be himself. Now into his fifth year on the PGA Tour, others have been forced to take notice of the Other Lefty. Three Tour wins and a runner-up at the 2010 PGA Championship in the space of 12 months will do that for a player. Two wins this season thus far—the Farmers Insurance Open and Zurich Classic—and a breakout 2010 season A new wave of fresh, fun and exciting golfers have emerged on the PGA Tour recently, and the lovable Bubba Watson is leading the charge. For a while he was known more for his ability to hit a crazy long ball. But now it’s his golf—and attitude to life on Tour that’s taking the interest of fans. This 32-year-old American is just one big kid. PLAYER THE LIVING THE DREAM The Next Generation www.qualitygolf.com.au
