LIST THE CHARACTER Shingo Katayama (born 1973) NICKNAMED “COWBOY Shingo”, Shingo Katayama’s charisma, style and happy-go-lucky approach on course has roped in many admiring fans. And we love him. The 38-year- old turned professional in 1995 and has played full time on the Japan Golf Tour since 1997. Winning 26 times in Japan, he topped that tour’s money list five times: 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008. Katayama’s ranked seventh in career wins with more than ¥1.5 billion in prizemoney and is ranked third on the career money list in Japan. He has played in several major championships and World Golf Championships events, and his most notable achievement outside of Japan is his tied fourth place finish at the 2001 PGA Championship. He tied Toshimitsu Izawa for the best showing of a Japanese golfer at the Masters, finishing fourth at Augusta in 2009. At his peak, Katayama made it inside the World Top 30 rankings. Yee ha!
