LIST THE THE EVENT Phoenix Open - Going Green THE PHOENIX Open has risen to the top of our list when it comes to attracting golf’s biggest crowds. This colourful PGA Tour event in Scottsdale Arizona draws more than 500,000 spectators each February, making it a favourite among fans. It’s best known for its par-3 16th party hole where fans are encouraged to mock, jeer and support the game’s elite. But t’s not all about drinking, yelling and a big payday for the pros—there’s also a sensitive side to this event. With Waste Management as title sponsor since 2010, the event also supports the ‘green’ movement to clean up the planet. More than a third of Saturday’s 131,627 fans, players and caddies donned green gear in support of the environmental initiative. Money was raised for charities with Dixon Golf recycling more than 144,000 used golf balls collected during the event.
