At 188cm and 82kg, Watney has the perfect physique for his sport. But it hasn’t always been about golf for the Californian, who turned 30 in April. His first love was baseball. And it was a deep love. In fact the man with one of the prettiest swings on Tour now didn’t pick up a club until he was 15—he was too busy practising pitching of another kind. But it’s now fair to say he made the right decision to hang up his mitt—at least for fans of golf. And as he battles out the final two events of the FedEx Cup and looks forward to a trip Down Under as a member of the US Presidents Cup team in November, even Nick Watney will want to talk about the year that was.
