Golf Australia Express : Issue 11
SCORING AN 11-under total for an entire tournament is handy. In many cases it’ll get you the win. It’s a number Australia’s Stuart Appleby sat at after three rounds at the 2010 Greenbrier Classic, still seven off the lead. Struggling for form, Appleby needed to produce something special to bolster confidence in his game. And he did just that. After holing a 10-foot birdie putt on the final green for a round of 11-under, Appleby moved to 22-under for the event, enough to win by just one-shot over American Jeff Overton. More significantly, he shot the fifth 59 in PGA Tour history and the first scored in a final round. It was a round that should’ve made the unflappable Apples go bananas.
