Golf Australia Express : Issue 12
VICKY HURST KAREN STUPPLES VICKY HURST is the youngest member of the USA Team. A timely tied 5th finish at the Safeway Classic—the final qualifying Solheim Cup event— showed she’s got some mettle. And US team captain Rosie Jones thought so, too. She handed the 21-year-old one of her two captain’s picks. Hurst is bred to win. Her mother, Pat Hurst won 11 LPGA titles and played in five Solheim Cups. Will that be a distracting factor, or will it fuel her desire to win? ENGLAND’S KAREN Stupples makes her second Solheim Cup appearance courtesy of a captain’s selection. With three career victories—the 2004 Welch Fry’s Championship, Women’s British Open and the 2009 Wales Ladies Championship—she’s a proven winner on both major women’s tours. And at 38, she’s an experienced campaigner. But Stupples hasn’t played a Solheim Cup since Crooked Stick in 2005. She lost both matches on that occasion. WORLD RANKING: 51 2ND SOLHEIM CUP (RECORD: 0W, 2L, 0 HALVES) WORLD RANKING: 75 SOLHEIM CUP DEBUT NUMBER RANKS 11
