RYANN O’TOOLE SANDRA GAL WORLD RANKING: 42 SOLHEIM CUP DEBUT WORLD RANKING: 102 SOLHEIM CUP DEBUT NUMBER RANKS 12 RYANN O’TOOLE, 24, secured the final spot in the US team as a captain’s pick. And the LPGA Tour rookie appears a risky pick—she’s the worst ranked player at the event. But every team needs a blend of experience, form, youthful exuberance and an X-factor. When O’Toole finished 9th at the US Women’s Open, US captain Rosie Jones told her she was on the radar for selection. With a win on the Futures Tour this season, it’ll be interesting to see how she fares at this elite event. The Yanks seem to rate her highly, and as these events tend to show, ranking stands for very little when the battle begins. GERMANY’S GLAMOUR Gal, Sandra, nabbed the final European captain’s pick. The 26-year-old makes her Solheim Cup debut, having earned a selection after a superb LPGA season. In March, Gal recorded her maiden LPGA Tour victory at the KIA Classic. She has three 2011 top 10 finishes, including a T5 at the recent NW Arkansas Championship. A 64 in the final there showed this 183cm gofler can stand tall under pressure. She’s a bunker specialist—ranked 3rd in sand saves—and if she does perform on the front line here it’s likely to give her team a pretty handy leg up.
