Golf Australia Express : Issue 16
But life’s not all about golf for Snedeker. Not any more. The birth of his first child in March—a daughter named Lily—has given golf’s Quick Draw McGraw a healthier perspective on life. Snedeker first announced himself to the golf world in a big way at the 2008 Masters. Eventually finishing third behind winner Trevor Immelman and current ‘Presidents Cup Party Pooper’ Tiger Woods, Snedeker went into the final round two shots behind the 54-hole leader. While a final round 77 quashed his chances of winning the major, Snedeker’s no-nonsense approach and quick play endeared him to golf followers around the world. The decision to opt for surgery now rather than later was likely made easier by his Presidents Cup omission. After all, with everything else pretty much sewn up, his focus can now shift to next season. “ This will enhance my focus going forward as I try to win golf tournaments and compete in major championships,” Snedeker said. “I’m very confident my recovery will be complete and will help me with my mobility during the remainder of my career,” he said. “I’m certainly disappointed I will not be able to fulfill some obligations, however, I realise I needed to get this done now so that I can get back to competition for the 2012 season.” We often forget as fans just how gruelling a season can be on the bodies of elite golfers. And after the season Snedeker’s had, who can knock him for now sitting back and putting his feet up? OTG SNEDEKER WON THIS YEAR’S THE HERITAGE OVER LUKE DONALD AND WENT CLOSE TO WINNING THE 2008 MASTERS (FAR RIGHT).
