Golf Australia Express : Issue 22
ADRAMATIC birdie at the final hole at Royal Pines helped Dutch gem Christel Boeljon to her first Ladies Masters win. Coming down the last in a four-way share of the lead, the composed 24-year- old sunk a solid five-foot putt to claim her second LET title and a cheque for $75,000. The 21-under the card victory was a fair show better than her three previous attempts at the crown, failing to make the cut at the event before this year. Boeljon set herself up with four rounds in the 60s, including opening rounds of 66 and 65 at the relatively tame Pines layout. “Prior to this tournament, I had never guessed I would be holding the trophy. Amazing,” Boeljon said after the win. “I was a long shot [after three rounds] but the scoring had been so good sowhycan’titbemewitha low round again?” Korean So-Yeon Ryu seemed a runaway winner after she posted an incredible 11-under 61 in the second round. But the US Open champion could only manage a further 3-under on the weekend and had to settle tied for second with compatriot Ha- Neul Kim and Italian Diana Luna.
