Golf Australia Express : Issue 32
SAY WHAT? LETTER OF THE WEEK HOW DISGRACEFUL! Tiger Woods kicking his 9-iron along the ground on the 16th at the Masters and Henrik Stenson slamming his club into the pine needles on the 18th on Day 1. Not the image to encourage young people to take up the game of golf. Both should be fined by the US PGA for their petulant acts. Woods is a disgrace in many ways. His antics are far removed from the ethics and manners of the game. But you watch, he won't be fined or at least remonstrated with for his brain explosion. He's what the big sponsors want and TV ratings is what it is all about for the USPGA. What a joke. THANKS AGAIN FOR taking the time to organise the day of golf for us. I kept thinking all day today about how I'd much rather be missing short putts at The National than fixing people’s heaters. Our group had a great day and we will certainly be keeping an eye out for upcoming days we can fit in. Everything was very well done from the nice touch of the putting comp to the fantastic rolls in our lunch packs and a dozen golf balls to make that rough feel a little less threatening. Hope you keep up the great work. I much rather see your next issue appear in my inbox than another bloody job! —Darren S, via email ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! Tiger is not bigger than the game. It is imperative we—"golfers"—maintain the integrity of the last sport where manners, honesty and integrity rule. Anybody behaving like that should be suspended for 3 months. Otherwise the next generation will behave the same and the game will be the loser forever. Shame on him—and I am a fan. —Nikki H, via email PETER FITZSIMONS summed Tiger up best when he said: "Who, dinkum, could like or admire Woods? What care I that a humourless automaton can hit a golf ball brilliantly? That fact remains, that at his height, Woods was a preening, pompous, arrogant d***head, who appeared to view the unwashed masses of golf supporters as a necessary evil he occasionally had to brush up against, on his way to glory." —Bill C, via email THE LETTER OF THE WEEK WINNER RECEIVES A DOZEN DIXON GOLF EARTH BALLS VALUED AT $49.95 —Peter R, via email TELL US YOUR THOUGHTS
