Golf Australia Express : Issue 32
STAT THE THE NUMBERS DON’T LIE... KOREA’S SUN YOUNG YOO—golf’s newest women’s major winner—has been banking plenty of coin this season. In fact after just six events, the 25-year-old has already deposited more than $488,000 in her account— that’s more than she earned from 21 events in 2011. Looking at her stats, it’s evident the percentage of greens Yoo finds in regulation directly affects her money list standing. Simply put she makes more green when she finds more greens. And this season the two-time LPGA Tour winner is finding the putting surface more often than three out of four approaches. That’s roughly a 10 per cent improvement on her 2011 performance. Is this the key to Yoo’s success? The stats seem to suggest so, and if she continues the form that’s already netted her a Kraft Nabisco Championship win as well as a runner-up at the Kia Classic, she’ll be a red hot favourite to pinching some of the cash Yani’s got her eyes on.
