STAT THE The Numbers doN’T Lie... Italy’s Francesco Molinari has built a game that delivers consistent results. you just need to check out his greens in regulation stats to see how often he’s around the mark. since the beginning of 2010 he’s played 58 events in which he’s had three wins, 21 top 10s and just three missed cuts. Heading into his 2011 season after finishing 5th in the race to Dubai the previous year, many expected Molinari to quickly add to his two european tour titles. With seven top 10s and more than €1 million in prizemoney, the 29-year-old fared pretty well, yet he remained winless and his greens in reg percentage headed south—even if marginally. But this season he’s improved on that stat to a career high 80.14 per cent (4th on the european tour). and again, Molinari is a winner. after six consecutive top 20s, he took out the reale seguros open de espana last weekend. at that event he found an amazing 86.1 per cent of greens in regulation on his way to a third title. Molinari’s again inside the top 10 in race to Dubai standings. If he continues to execute his approach game with the same laser-like accuracy through to the end of the season, 2012 is bound to be his best season. and with the sort of magic he displayed on the course in spain, a major breakthrough could be on the cards, too.
