Golf Australia Express : Issue 53
RICKY BARNES Iron Man NUMBERS DON’T LIE... STAT THE I N HIS EARLY DAYS on Tour, Ricky Barnes had controversy following him everywhere. But that's all behind him now. Nothing humbles a sportsman quite like injury, and the 31-year-old American has had more than his fair share of hurt in recent years. A chronic back complaint is to blame for that. Yet it seems that after continual disappointments, the 2009 US Open runner-up has finally got it right. Focusing heavily on getting his body fit, the strapping Barnes has enjoyed a solid 2012 season, excelling with his iron- play in a range of stats that would suggest a better season next year. While he earned just $779,983 in prizemoney—lowly by PGA Tour standards—the most pleasing aspect for Barnes was staying healthy for a whole season to play 25 events and make 17 cuts.
