Golf Australia Express : Summer of Golf 2012-13
DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW THE FEDEX CUP PLAYOFFS SERIES WORKS? TELL US YOUR THOUGHTS DARREN CLARKE PLAYERS T HE OPEN. RYDER CUP success. Guinness. Lovable larrikin Darren Clarke is synonymous with all three. The 44-year-old Northern Irishman returns for a consecutive Australian PGA Championship appearance and he’s bound to add some colour to the final event of the year. Who could forget the Ulsterman winning the 2011 British Open in what was his 54th major championship and 20th crack at the Claret Jug? It was a fairytale win for one of golf’s nice guys and it kicked off a year-long party. Or what about his outpouring of emotion at Europe’s successful 2006 Ryder Cup campaign, just six week after the passing of his wife Heather? That was one of four Ryder Cups the big guy has won as a player. Clarkey’s form might not have been so great of late, but he’s coming to Australia on the back of another Ryder Cup win for Europe as non-playing vice- captain. That success is bound to see him in fine spirits.OTG
