Golf Australia Express : April 2013-The Masters
PRAYERS ANSWERED CORNER COLLAPSES 3 3 Phil Mickelson 2010 Masters After spraying his tee shot right at 13, Mickelson played the shot of his life––a 6-iron from pine needles over Rae's creek for a crack at an unlikely eagle. While he missed the subsequent putt for a tap-in birdie, the play gave Lefty the impetus to go on and clinch a third Masters victory. Arnold Palmer 1958 Masters Arnold Palmer won his first of four Masters titles after he outlasted Ken Venturi, eagling the 13th on Sunday en route to victory. The term 'Amen Corner' was first used to describe the epic battle around the bend. Byron Nelson 1937 Masters The charismatic Byron Nelson made up six shots in two holes on Ralph Guldahl to win by two shots. How'd he do it? Nelson went birdie-eagle at holes 12 and 13. Oh Lord! Greg Norman 1996 Masters In what many consider the greatest collapse in major history, Greg Norman's dream of a green jacket went to hell at Amen Corner on Sunday. Entering the infamous stretch with a two-shot lead over Nick Faldo, The Shark came out at the 14th tee trailing by two, thanks in part to a double-bogey at the 12th. Tommy Nakajima 1978 Masters It's hard not to feel for poor old Tommy Nakajima. The Japanese golfer still holds the ignominious record of carding a 13 at Augusta's 13th hole in 1978. One of those days he couldn't hot a barnyard shed. Guess when you're playing Augusta National you want to see as much of it as you can. Ernie Els 2002 Masters Within striking distance of Tiger Woods at the 2002 Masters, Ernie Els blew his chances at the 13th hole, carding a triple-bogey 8 after his second shot hit a tree limb..
