Golf Australia Express : June 2013-US OPEN
AROUND THE TRAPS IRISH 'OPEN' PARTY THE luck of the Irish to you if you happen to be in the land of the clover later this month. The Irish Open has been branded a ‘Festival of Golf’ and is set to become one big party. The 17th green at Carton House Golf Club in Kildare will feature stadium seating for 1500 fans, while the event will also introduce a ‘Three Towns’ initiative to ensure the festivities extend to nearby Maynooth, Leixlip and Celbridge. JANZEN TRIPS UP ON SPIKES TWO-time US Open champ Lee Janzen won't be at next week’s major after he was ejected from a sectional qualifying event. The ’93 and ’98 US Open champ was disqualified from the Woodmont Country Club event for violating a local rule by wearing metal spikes in the first round of the two round qualifier in which the American shot a 75. “It’s the player’s responsibility to know the rules of competition,” USGA rules official Michael Cumberpatch told the Golf Channel. “The shock from most people here is that a player would wear metal spikes and not know they weren’t allowed. Somehow he fell through the crack.” An email was sent to players before the event outlining the sectionals’ course rules. CLUBGLOVE.COM.AU
