Golf Australia Express : July 2013 - THE OPEN
FRESH off his first major triumph at the US Open last month, fair to say Justin Rose’s confidence is sky high. This month marks the 15th year since the Englishman shot to prominence with a dramatic finish at the 1998 Open at Royal Birkdale. An amateur at the time, Rose pulled off an incredible shot out of the rough at the 72nd hole to finish in a tie for fourth. Since that year, JR has only played 10 Opens—missing the cut in four—with a T12 in 2007 his best showing. Sure, his Open record might be unimpressive to say the least, but form leading into it is quite the opposite. IT DOESN'T seem all that long ago we were saying Luke Donald looked a million bucks every time he teed it up as the world's No.1 player. Yet despite his long and successful career—and dominating 2010-11 seasons—the current world No.8 remains one of those rare breed of players to reach the top of the golf world's rankings without winning a major. This season, ironically enough, consistency seems to be the 35-year-old's biggest concern, and he's down on many of the performance-measuring stats he normally relies on.
