Golf Australia Express : August 2013 - PGA Championship
ON ANCHOR BAN... Allowing a hinged putter is akin to allowing carts. If it allows amateurs to enjoy their golf and keep playing when age or lesser health would otherwise hinder, then it's good for them and good for the game. —MADONNA CAMERON, VIA EMAIL LETTERS I AM SICK TO DEATH of these so called sports journalists who revert to the good old Aussie 'Tall Poppy' syndrome of knocking our champions. The rants on how 'Scott Blew It' and 'The Ghosts of St George's return' after the Open is a load of codswallop from these imbeciles— and they get paid for it. They did it to [Greg] Norman, they've done it to our cricketers and anyone else who doesn't win. Go away you fools and report on something else. They wouldn't know what it's like to stand over a 2-metre putt on a sloping green that's running 11 or 12 on the stimpmeter in the greatest golf tournament in the world. Oh, by the way idiots, Phil Mickelson; a winner of five golfing majors just birdied four of the last six holes to win the Jug on a tough golf course and in trying conditions. Adam Scott didn't lose it or blow it. Phil won it. —PETER ROOKAS, VIA EMAIL TELL US YOUR THOUGHTS TELL US YOUR THOUGHTS *Ed’s Note: Hope you don't put us in that group Peter. Agree that although Scotty didn't have his greatest round on Sunday at The Open, to suggest he blew the tournament is sensationalist in the extreme. Here are some balls. Please don't hit'em at us! THE LETTER OF THE MONTH RECEIVES A DOZEN CALLAWAY HEX BLACK TOUR BALLS ON BUBBA'S CADDIE... FOR BUBBA to blame the caddie for his mistakes is pretty lame. After all, his is the one to hit the shots, he chooses the club based on the yardage from the caddie. So Bubba, just suck it up and accept your own mistakes. —TONY LANE, VIA EMAIL BUBBA WAS probably just in disbelief that at a crucial moment he made a mistake, a player who has been elevated to the level of a demi god for his own style, shot making and power. Total self belief and 'one mindedness' to win, not arrogance, forced him to search for the reason for the mistake. It had to be someone else; the caddie was closest to hand. He hit the first shot poor as well as the second over the green. It happens, and if it was earlier in the tournament there would not have been the same reaction. —GREG KEARNEY, VIA EMAIL YOUR THOUGHTS... LETTER OF THE MONTH I WOULD have dropped the bag and walked to the bar. —GAVIN ORR VIA EMAIL
