EASTWOOD MAKES HIS DAY AT PEBBLE BEACH HAVING Hollywood royalty on hand paid off for more reasons than just crowd numbers at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am. Clint Eastwood was at a volunteer party on the eve of the event when he noticed tournament director Steve John choking on a piece of cheese. The veteran actor sprung into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the rogue delicacy. “I was looking at him and couldn’t breathe. He recognised it immediately and saved my life,” John said. DOONBEG THE LATEST COURSE TO BE TRUMPED THE incredibly spectacular Doonbeg Golf Club is soon to renamed Trump International Golf Links, Ireland after billionaire American Donald Trump announced the purchase of the Greg Norman designed course. The always popular club in County Clare, Ireland, went into receivership in January. Trump and his executive team have reportedly bought the resort for €15 million. “I am thrilled to announce that we have purchased yet another incredible golf resort,” said Trump, in a statement released by the Trump Organization. “Doonbeg is already a terrific property that we will make even better. It will soon be an unparalleled resort destination with the highest standards of luxury.” Designed by Greg Norman and opened in 2002, Doonbeg offers some of the most incredible cliff top views over the Atlantic Ocean more associated with older clubs. Just a berth at this year’s Open Championship at Royal Liverpool if you don’t mind. Winner George Coetzee will also tee it up at the Open, while Walters and Jeong got the nod over Tyrrell Hatton, who also finished in second place but is lower in the world golf rankings. EURASIA CUP TEAM ANNOUNCED TEAM Asia will be a commentator’s nightmare at next month’s inaugural EurAsia Cup, with nine of the 10-man team recently named to take on Europe’s playing captain Miguel Angel Jimenez, Graeme McDowell, Victor Dubuisson and a host of other big names. The Asian outfit will feature captain Thongchai Jaidee [pictured], Korea’s Kim Hyung-Sung, Japanese stars Koumei Oda and Hideto Tanihara, as well as Asian Tour No.1 Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman.
