Golf Australia Express : February 2014
FAIRWAYWOODS IF there was a prize for the funkiest designed fairway wood, Adams' XTD Ti would probably win it. That's not to say this thing is looks alone—there's a heap of technology inside, too. Staying true to Adams' belief in aerodynamics, the XTD Ti's sleek design helps get the ball up off the ground quickly. Beauty and beast in one. Suited for the better player. IF proof was needed you don't need to go over the top with a design to produce a great club, the Cleveland 588 is it. This no-nonsense fairway wood offers a clean Tour design that won't distract you off the tee or from the fairway. Cleveland designers have increased the 588's sweet spot to promote forgiveness on mis-hits and it has a lower centre of gravity to help launch your ball. A lighweight shaft (52 grams) helps increase your swing speed, too. SURELY adding some visual lines to the head of the Ping i25 fairway woods will help you stripe it more often. (Yes, we are more literal than we should be at times!). Ignoring what some might see as a gimmick, the stripes on these 17-4 stainless steel fairways apparently help with alignment at setup. Available in 14o, 15o, 18o versions, these bad boys need to be hit to be understood—they're smoother than a New York crooner. Also has some pretty neat loft adjustment. WE didn't think Callaway could improve on the whopping long and ridiculously easy-to-hit X Hot fairway wood. How wrong we were. The upgraded model—the X2 Hot— is so consistent and long, you could seriously consider replacing your driver with it. Seriously. The new version is also lighter than the original, which helps generate a faster swing speed and greater distance. Freaking long! ADAMS XTD Ti CLEVELAND 588 CALLAWAY X2 Hot PING i25
