US OPEN RECORD NUMBERS THERE will be more than a few disappointed golfers in the coming months when the US Open field is confirmed. More than 10,100 entries have been received for the June 12-15 event, breaking last year's record of 9860, with local qualifying starting on May 2. Worst still for first- time Open hopefuls is news that 51 players are exempt from qualifying, including 12 former champions. SCHREEFEL'S $100K ACE DUTCHWOMAN Dewi Claire Schreefel more than tripled her 2014 earnings in 10 seconds at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic. Schreefel sunk a hole-in-one at the 12th hole, which carried a $100,000 prize for anyone who aced it. The 28-year-old, who had earned less than $50,000 on tour this year, said her first thought was, "Wow, that's worth more than a car". ROYAL AND ANCIENT CHIEF CHANGE THE R&A will be looking for a new head honcho next year after Peter Dawson announced he would retire as chief executive next year. Dawson will step down in September 2015 and will also vacate his role as secretary of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St Andrews. The R&A hailed Dawson as a key pillar in the Open Championship's commercial success since 2009, while he was also instrumental in bringing golf back to the Rio Olympics in 2016. Around The Traps
