But Woods did it for the best part of two decades. McIlroy has done it for about two years. More than anything else, Rory is his own man. He is not Tiger II. (At least he is now.) It is no surprise to those who observe him closely that the Northern Irishman has started to win more — and win big — following a reonditioning of his self belief and trust in his game. His decision to start creating his own path, rather than trying to emulate that of The Chosen One is what now makes him not only the No.1 player in the world, but the No.1 threat at every tournament he plays. So let’s wait and see what McIlroy can produce in the coming seasons, and just enjoy the ride. You never know. One day we might be comparing Tiger to Rory. OTG
